History
AnthroBD; An Initiative for Research and Development. The initiative started on March 14, 2019 with a group of young enthusiastic anthropology faculty, development professionals and social workers of Bangladesh. In addition to research work, it is working to spread anthropological understanding and its learnings to the mass of people. The main purpose of this initiative is to integrate two identical goals- firstly; the knowledge building of social sciences in particular Anthropology, and secondly; participate in research and social work for society and development. AnthroBD has continued to conduct various activities in accordance with these goals.
May 10-14, 2020
At the beginning of Covid-19, AnthroBD distributed financial and food items to about six districts among 100 families in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Jessore, Dinajpur, Tangail and Moulvibazar. The food item was rice (5 kg), pulses (1 kg), soybean oil (1 liter), sugar (1 kg), potatoes (1 kg), salt (1 kg) and onion (1 kg). The financial gift item was 500 tk for each. We, the AnthroBD, distributed the gift to everyone regardless of race, religion or caste.

Winter clothes were distributed among 30 families at Ranisankail in Thakurgaon on the initiative of AnthroBD. The local organization “United Forum of Ranisankail” assisted in the implementation of this initiative.

At the Tala Upazila “Tala Upazila Disability School” in Satkhira, AnthroBD distributed blankets and masks to 60 disadvantaged students in winter. The Tala Upazila Disability School, run by the local organization ‘Disaster Management Foundation (DMF)’, assisted in the implementation of this initiative. Financially supported by “Do Something Foundation” and the “Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology”. Tala Upazila Parishad Chairman Ghosh Sanat Kumar, Upazila Youth Development Officer Obaidur Hawlader, President of Backward Human Development Forum, school teachers and other guests were present on the occasion.

AnthroBD provided essential food items among thirty families from Durgapur, Ainapur and Ramdevpur in Tangail and nine families in Haimchar upazila in Chandpur (within the budget of tk. 1000) on the occasion of Ramadan month. This initiative is implemented by the donations of well wishers of AnthroBD. In addition “Do Something Foundation” has made a special contribution to this collaboration.
May 10-12, 2021
AnthroBD distributed Eid items to about five districts among 100 families in Chandpur, Comilla, Dinajpur, Dhaka and Moulvibazar. The Eid items included 1 kg of pulao rice, 2 packets of lachcha semai, 1 kg of sugar, 1 packet of milk, 1 kg of soybean oil (more or less as required) and 3 face masks each to raise awareness. Some were also given financial assistance. This distribution is handled by the local representative of AnthroBD.
